A new research has found that Canadian children aren’t as active compared with other countries. It indicates that they might be the ones who are not as participative when it comes to physical activity.

The yearly ParticipAction report card gave a rating of D- for Canada’s kids. This is the fourth consecutive year that they got that mark. It appears that only a small percentage of kids get the required amount of activity.

Canadian kids may be among the least active in the world: ParticipAction

The new ParticipAction study, released Wednesday, compared Canada’s dismal record to data from 37 other countries. Canada was placed towards the bottom of the pack, alongside other developed countries including Australia, England, Spain and the United States. Read more…

CBC reports that the countries who got higher grades in the study are Slovenia (A-), New Zealand (B-) and Zimbabwe (C+). More than three-quarters of Slovenian kids get the recommended physical activity every day. Canada shows only nine percent.

The main difference is that Slovenia incorporates physical fitness in their school time because of a national program. They get tested every year too. The Netherlands got the highest score because of kids’ active participation.

Kids in Canada should take it up a notch. It’s a bit alarming that when comparing the ratings with 37 countries, it looks like the Canada is falling behind. That places the country at the bottom part of the list.

Children should be encouraged to limit screen time and do some live interaction with others. Unstructured play could be the best form and including it in their daily lives can greatly improve their lifestyle.

Study: Canadian Kids Among the Least Active in the World

It appears Canadian kids need to step it up when it comes to physical activity. Researchers, who put together the annual ParticipAction Report Card, compared Canada’s youth physical activity record to data from 37 other countries and found kids here placed near the bottom of the list. Read more…

Children these days are so wrapped up in technology and screen time that they don’t get to appreciate the value of active play or live participation when it comes to interacting with the real world. Parents, teachers and the government can work together to come up with ways on how to combat this state.
