The majority of humans starts to experience age-related brain decline as early as 40 years old, because that’s when the brain’s volume and weight declines, too. Common symptoms include forgetfulness, inability to focus and difficulty in problem solving. These normal yet alarming symptoms may cause depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers at King’s College London found the mental exercises kept minds sharp and helped people with everyday skills such as shopping and cooking.

But don’t wait until you’re 50 – you can boost and protect your brain health as early as now through exercising, quitting smoking, getting enough sleep, and avoiding head injuries. Reading books can also help practice your mental capability. Most importantly, eating a healthy, balanced diet. Omega 3 fatty acids, which are found in walnuts, flaxseeds, soybeans, and fatty fishes, have been shown to have positive effects.
