You may want to believe it or not, but one of the best ways to quit smoking is to stop abruptly and have that dogged resolve to kick the habit permanently.

This was the startling result of a survey and study made by the Annals of Internal Medicine, where tests have been conducted on a couple of hundred smokers  who volunteered and found out that 25% of them were likely to abstain from smoking for six months.

This made a lot of difference to those who were tested using a method of gradually shifting or weaning themselves, who were less likely to succeed.

This was also bolstered by the British-led NHS Smokefree campaign to set a date to quit and stop the habit completely and resist any craving for a stick of cigarette has been found to be more successful.

Dr. Nicola Lindson- Hawley, lead researcher from Oxford University, said that “the difference in quit attempts seemed to arise because people struggled to cut down. It provided them with an extra thing to do, which may have pout them off quitting altogether.

Although more volunteers preferred to quit the habit gradually, it was more profound in the findings that those who stopped abruptly eventually succeeded in abstaining from smoking for longer periods of time.

Tobacco use has become a global epidemic today and continues to generate billions of dollars in annual income for the tobacco industry.

In 2010, the tobacco industry generated a total revenue of $664 billion and the number is expected to rise in the current and coming years – this amount is more than the GDP of almost all – except 18 – nations combined.

In the United States alone, 20% of all deaths are related to tobacco and globally, one person dies every six seconds from a tobacco-related disease.

Worse, tobacco smoke contains over 4000 toxic chemicals, most of which are harmful to the human body and sadly, more than 600,000 non- smokers worldwide die every year from second-hand smoke and a third of this are children.

Just look at the deadly statistics of smoking, it may end up to be your best way to quit smoking.
