Despite the increasing number of countries banning it, GMOs are still increasing in number.

Australia, Japan, Italy, Austria, and most European countries are among the lead countries against GMO. Why are they against it? Well, it’s not a natural-given gift from the environment. It’s made in laboratories and has been altered artificially.

Pro-GMOs say they are safe to consume. Plus, they have more yield, and they offer lower market price than the regular.

Now even salmon, the first animal food to be genetically modified, will soon be out for human consumption. It was made by AquaBounty Technologies 25 years ago. They named it as “Frankenfish” as they grow faster, about 16 to 18 months, than the regular, which takes up to three years.

After two long decades, GMO fish gets approved. It took this long because other scientists believe this could be a threat to other sea animals, especially because it’s larger than the native one.

AquaBounty Technologies should make sure these GM salmon will not get out in the wild. It’s just hard to imagine not being able to eat natural food in the future.

Other GMO products include corn, soy, canola oil, papaya, some dairy products, and about 80 percent of processed foods. If you don’t want to eat such products, you may purchase organic products. Make sure they have “Non-GMO project” or “100% organic” seal.
