Subway Will Now Serve Antibiotic-Free Meat

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, 80 percent of antibiotics in the US are used in animals, not humans. If you’re wondering why these animals need antibiotics, well, take a close look at that fast food you are eating.

Farmers and ranchers are feeding animals with antibiotics because they make them gain more weight, and they appear to be healthier. However, this poses serious health risks to humans, even the environment.

Since consumers become more aware, meat companies started to lessen or stop the usage of antibiotics, which will hopefully lead to healthier meals in various food chains.

Chipotle, Panera, Chick-fil-A and McDonalds already promised antibiotic-free poultry. And a recent report says that Subway will now serve antibiotic-free meat as well. Read more in this article by Dan Charles on NPR

The parade of fast-food companies promising to sell meat from animals that never received antibiotics just got significantly longer. Subway, the ubiquitous sandwich chain, is following the lead of Chipotle, Panera, Chick-fil-A and McDonalds, with its promise Tuesday that its meat suppliers gradually will go antibiotic-free. So yes, Subway will now serve antibiotic-free meat, and hopefully more food chains will follow.

Remember, it’s always better to eat whole and raw foods than those with artificial additives. More often than not, products with five or more ingredients contain a lot of unhealthy ingredients. Stick with natural and organic produce as much as possible. It’s the safest way.
